Pastor Chris Butler, congressional candidate for the 1st District of Illinois responds to Congressman Bobby Rush’s Retirement Announcement.
Today, we learned that Rep. Bobby Rush is retiring after nearly 30 years of serving in the Congress and a lifetime of activism. I wish the Congressman well in his retirement and thank him for his lifelong devotion to public service. Indeed, our communities are freer and our society more just because of his work.
This is a critical moment for the 1st Congressional District and the country. I look forward to honoring Congressman Rush’s legacy by being a voice in Congress and in our party that advances us in a new direction: not hyper-partisanship and polarization, but unity, progress, and justice; lifting up the voices and the values of hardworking people from forgotten places even when entrenched power doesn’t want to hear what needs to be said.
